Description
of Assignment: The purpose of this assignment was to create a
lesson rich in technology that promoted higher order thinking skills among
students. In addition to students using technology, the teacher (students
in EME 4406) used technology as a tool to create and design the lesson
that was specific to their chosen area of study. Students in EME 4406 created
a web page or web quest that explained the purpose of the lesson and a
description of how the lesson was to take place. How technology was
used in the lesson they created was for students to decide. For my
lesson, I created a web page with an introduction explaining the value
of the topic of study and a list of assignments for students to do.
Specific assignments had examples of work to show to students and handouts
explaining the directions to guide students. Within my lesson, students
used technology in a variety of different ways. They researched information
on the Internet, used Excel to keep track of data in a spreadsheet and
make a graph, and presented their findings in a power point presentation
or through a web page. Each assignment had a list of objectives to
help define desired learning goals of the lesson and a breakdown of grading
criteria.
Rationale
(Why you chose to use this as an illustration and how it is an example
of the Accomplished Practice: I chose incorporate this assignment
within my Florida Accomplished Practices because I believe it shows my
understanding of how technology serves as a tool for teachers in creating
their own lesson plans, and it displays how technology, when integrated
into content instruction, can promote higher order thinking among students.
In addition, this assignment displays my knowledge of objective writing
and is a perfect example of how the study of Sociology can be linked to
other subject areas such as math and English.
